Stars of Hope
Welcome to Stars of Hope!
Watch the video below to find out more about what our project achieved:
Bringing Hope to the Streets of Oban at Christmas
Stars of Hope was a collaborative project between H2O, local primary schools and local businesses. The project saw vacant shop fronts in Oban’s main streets decorated with stars made by the town’s primary school children. On the back of the 3D stars were written the young people’s hopes for the coming year.
The Covid-19 pandemic made 2020 a confusing and challenging year for young people. Most of the usual visitors who add variety to the rhythm of school-life were unable to be in schools last year. H2O wanted to find a way of reassuring young people, their teachers and family that they have not been forgotten.
Taking care to follow all Covid-safe protocols throughout, Stars of Hope gathered hand-crafted 3D stars from participating P6 and P7 year groups of local primary schools. The resulting art was hung in local shop windows throughout Oban’s high street as part of the town’s festive decorations. The display’s focal point featured the decoration of some of the town’s currently vacant shop fronts - bringing the young people’s hope to the town after a difficult year.

The shop windows featuring Stars of Hope displays were scattered throughout the town centre. The displays offered a chance for Christmas shoppers to stop a while and read the young people's hopes for the coming year.
With Thanks
The handiwork on display in Oban’s shop fronts was down to the hard work and imagination of all the young people that helped make stars. So special thanks go to all these young people as well as the various schools represented and all the local businesses that helped make everything possible.
